Discerno II active stage launched in France

The 2 French partners of the Discerno + project CEEP France and the Fédération des Sem, invited their members to an information meeting last 6 December in Paris.

Public SMEs involved in the works of the various sectors such as housing, urban development, transport, waste or “parking” were present.

Their representatives unanimously stressed that in a more and more competitive context, obtaining a label regarding corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSER) will rapidly become unavoidable for public SME. Many of those enterprises are already active in the field of CSR, and for others Discerno is a good opportunity to get on the board.

Many participants asked for the indicators to be simple, more “qualitative” than “quantitative”, and more transversal than sectoral.

Most of those enterprises declared themselves ready to participate from January 2008 to the online questionnaire, in order to be able to be candidate for the attribution of the label.

A lot of very interesting testimonies and analysis were presented by experts, university teachers and enterprises managers. All the statements expressed a common view: local utilities are improving their services. The best quality for users and customers is a permanent daily action of these enterprises and also the true basis of a good CSR policy.

European Commission: YOUR WORLD, YOUR BUSINESS

YOUR WORLD, YOUR BUSINESS is a common partnership between the European Commission and Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise. It fosters European policy objectives in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and entrepreneurship education. The target audience are young people between 16 and 19 years but, their teachers could participate as well.

YOUR WORLD, YOUR BUSINESS targets to inspire young people to become the sort of entrepreneurs which our society increasingly needs. These ‘new’ entrepreneurs should be creative, dynamic and strong-willed to make the world a better place.
If you have a look at the potential of entrepreneurs you assert that they can make money, create jobs and provide solutions to some of the environmental and social challenges in our society.
The teacher’s guide gives teachers some ideas to introduce their students to the notion of being an entrepreneur, especially linked to environmental and social issues.
